Little Swimmer Things

Anonymous asked: you said something about your shoulders being big... but i really doubt that JUST swimming for high school makes your shoulders manly. cause i'm guessing hs swimming's like, 3 months out of the year. & you have to be swimming during your growth spurt (and reading your FAQ youre a girl so i'm guessing like when youre 10 ish) for your shoulders to be manly. just saying...

i never answer messages like these but you clearly put an extraordinary amount of effort into this (not to mention hardcore blog creeping), so i decided i should put at least a little effort in too.

i swim 6 months out of the year - high school and a summer club. i’ve mentioned that several times, so check your facts before you call me out.

in addition, your growth spurt doesn’t happen overnight and then it’s over. it’s a longer period of time. i didn’t grow quickly -  i like to say i’m still waiting to grow since i’m 17 and barely 5’2”. so yeah, swimming while hitting that growth spurt can change the shape of your body, but swimming in general can alter your bone and muscle structure.

go read natalie coughlin’s book, golden girl. she learned to swim freestyle breathing only on one side, and after swimming like that for years her entire spine curved, and her shoulder blades weren’t lined up with each other, and her arms hung unevenly. after switching to bilateral breathing, her spine straightened out. i’m not saying i train at a level even close to that of natalie coughlin, but it is an example. swimming can fuck with your body on so many levels.

and in conclusion, if you don’t like what i post, unfollow me. i love my followers but at the end of the day this is my blog. (:
